Pearson Education Launches PASeries Algebra I
Newest Addition to PASeries Product Line Measures Student Progress and Forecasts Growth in Secondary Mathematics
CHICAGO – March 29, 2006 – PASeries Algebra I will debut as the fourth product in the Pearson PASeries™ (Progress Assessment Series™) product line at the 2006 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Annual Conference, April 1-3 in Chicago. Developed for students in grades 6-12, PASeries Algebra I uses The Quantile Framework® for Mathematics to provide regular progress monitoring of student achievement and to forecast growth toward state performance standards or grade-level expectations.
“Educators have quickly recognized the value of using the results from PASeries formative assessments to ensure that students are on the path to achievement,” said Douglas Kubach, president, Pearson Educational Measurement, developer of PASeries. “PASeries Algebra I will now provide secondary mathematics teachers with actionable results for targeting instruction to improve student performance.”
PASeries Algebra I tests are designed for completion in one class period and for delivery either on paper or online with quick electronic reporting of results. PASeries Algebra I assessments are scientifically valid, reliable and research-based formative tests that include six progress-monitoring tests and five diagnostic tests for targeting instruction.
For scoring and reporting, the Quantile Framework measures math achievement on a scientific, developmental scale. MetaMetrics Inc. is the developer of both The Quantile Framework and The Lexile Framework® for Reading, the most widely adopted reading measure in use today. The Quantile scale represents mathematic achievement ranging from understanding how to read mathematical expressions to knowing how and why to apply various types of mathematical knowledge in areas such as numbers and operations, geometry, algebra, data analysis and probability, and measurement.
In addition to PASeries Algebra I, the PASeries product line now includes PASeries Writing, PASeries Reading and PASeries Mathematics. This school year, the progress of more than 130,000 students in nearly 200 school districts nationwide will be evaluated with PASeries formative assessments.
PASeries is distributed to states and districts by Pearson Educational Measurement and Pearson Assessments. For more information about the PASeries product line, visit www.PearsonPASeries.com.
