PASeries Reading Wins 2007 Best Educational Software Award

Formative Assessment From Pearson Education Measures Student Progress, Forecasts Growth

IOWA CITY, Iowa – May 15, 2007 – Pearson Education announced today that PASeries® Reading is the winner of a 2007 Best Educational Software (BESSIE) Award. Part of the PASeries (Progress Assessment Series®) formative assessment product line, PASeries Reading is designed to measure reading progress throughout the school year and to forecast growth for students in grades 3-8. PASeries Reading was honored as best language arts product in the “Early Elementary” category.

This is the thirteenth year that ComputED Learning Center, San Diego’s leading computer education resource, has presented the BESSIE awards, recognizing innovative and content-rich programs and Web sites that provide parents and teachers with the technology to foster educational excellence. Winners are selected from titles submitted by software publishers from around the world.

“It is gratifying to have PASeries Reading recognized by the educators at ComputED Learning Center,” said Douglas Kubach, president and CEO, Pearson Educational Measurement, developer of PASeries. “School districts around the country use PASeries Reading and the other assessments in the PASeries family to link assessment to instruction.”

PASeries Reading uses the industry-standard scientific Lexile Framework® for Reading. Lexiles® provide a common scale for matching reader ability and text difficulty, allowing easy monitoring of student progress. The reading formative assessments include screener, progress and diagnostic tests, focusing on overall ability as well as specific skills in reading.
