WriteToLearn Wins 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award From Association of Educational Publishers

Web-Based Learning Tool Honored as Best Reading and Language Instruction Web Site for Grades 6-8

BOULDER, Colo. - June 15, 2007 - WriteToLearn™ from Pearson Knowledge Technologies is the winner of a 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The Web-based learning tool was honored as the best "Curriculum: Reading and Language Instruction Web Site for Grades 6-8."

With WriteToLearn, students practice essay writing and summarization skills, and their efforts are measured by the state-of-the-art Knowledge Analysis Technologies™ (KAT) engine, which automatically evaluates the meaning of text by examining whole passages, not just grammatical correctness or spelling.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the Distinguished Achievement Awards recognize the best educational materials - such as books, periodicals, educational toys and software - within subject categories and by audience. As an AEP Award winner, WriteToLearn earns the right to display the Lamp of Learning seal, nationally recognized by educators and administrators as a mark of outstanding quality and achievement.

"We are proud to have WriteToLearn recognized by the leaders of the educational publishing industry," said Lynn Streeter, president, Pearson Knowledge Technologies. "Teachers who use WriteToLearn tell us that they are amazed at the literacy skills their students build when they practice essay writing and summarizing and get immediate, targeted feedback. We are committed to continually updating and expanding WriteToLearn so that it remains the premier tool for developing writing and reading comprehension skills."

Earlier this year, WriteToLearn 3.0 was launched. The newest update of this innovative learning tool now gives student writing a score for each of six traits of writing: ideas, organization, conventions, sentence fluency, word choice and voice. In addition, the more than 100 reading passages available for summarizing in WriteToLearn 3.0 have Lexile® measures. As the most widely adopted reading measure, The Lexile Framework for Reading measures both reader ability and text difficulty on the same scale.
